CloudFam Features: What the Platform Offers Its Users
Most feature lists for file hosts are written for the people uploading. This one is written for the people on the other end: those downloading files, streaming media, or keeping an account for their own storage. Where a feature only matters to uploaders, it is marked as such.
Downloading
- Direct download with an Access Key. A paid pass bypasses the queue, the intermediate pages and the captcha, and starts the file immediately.
- Key works across links. From the 30-day pass upward, one key covers all CloudFam links rather than a single file.
- Email delivery. The key is sent by email, so downloads do not require a logged in session on every device.
- Priority servers on the 90-day pass, and maximum speed on the 1-year VIP pass.
- Without a key, downloads run through a 60 second queue, three or more intermediate steps with banner ads and sponsor popups, and a captcha.
Video Streaming
Media files can be played directly in the browser instead of being downloaded in full, with delivery running through a Cloudflare R2 proxy. For anyone who only needs to check the contents of a video, this avoids pulling several gigabytes to disk. It is one of the more genuinely useful features on the platform and it is easy to miss.
Storage and File Limits
- 300 GB of free storage per account.
- 5 GB maximum per file, which is adequate for most archives and standard video files but not for uncompressed masters or large disk images.
- Remote URL upload, so files can be pulled in from another host without downloading them locally first.
File Retention
Files are not kept indefinitely when nobody touches them. Ebooks and audio files with zero downloads are retained for 90 or more days, other file types for 60 days. Any file with download activity continues to be kept. This matters to anyone treating the platform as a backup destination: CloudFam is a sharing host, and inactive content eventually expires.
Account Security
- Two factor authentication using TOTP apps, which is not universal in this category and is worth enabling.
- 24 hour cooldown on changes to the payout method, a sensible anti hijack measure for accounts that hold a balance.
Ad Blocker and Proxy Detection
The free download route detects ad blockers and proxy connections. When detection triggers, the session is flagged and the uploader of that file is credited nothing for it. This is worth understanding for two reasons: free downloads can behave inconsistently with a blocker enabled, and the detection is one of the reasons the platform can afford the rates it pays uploaders. A paid Access Key sidesteps the question entirely, since the paid route does not run through the ad supported pages.
For Uploaders
Anyone interested in the earning side of the platform, meaning the four monetization models, the CPM rates by country, the payout methods and the referral program, will find that covered separately on the CloudFam affiliate and earnings page. It is a different product with a different audience, and mixing the two makes both harder to evaluate.
What Is Missing
- No stated refund policy on the public download page.
- No published speed figures. Tiers are described as priority or maximum speed without numbers attached, so the difference between them cannot be verified before purchase.
- No desktop client. Downloads run through the browser.
